Does the thought of visiting the dentist feel you with fear? Would you rather suffer the pain of a toothache than go to a dental office? Do you feel nervous or anxious leading up to or during dental treatments? You are not alone. Many people suffer from dental fears, or dental anxiety. This can be the result of a negative experience or something as simple as fear of the unknown. If you suffer from dental anxiety, do you have to suffer with the stress and fear when you go to a dental office? No! Sedation dentistry is an option for patients like you.

Laughing Gas
Nitrous oxide, which is commonly known as laughing gas, is an inhaled sedation. Your dentist will place a mask over your mouth and nose, through which you will breathe a combination of oxygen and nitrous oxide. The gas will help ease your anxieties and help you to relax. After your procedure, the gas will wear off quickly, so you will be able to drive yourself home.

Oral Sedation
Your dentist may also use oral sedation to ease your fears. If oral sedation is chosen, you will take a pill an hour before the dental treatment. Oral sedation can offer a low or medium level of sedation, based on the dosage given. The pill will cause drowsiness, but you will remain awake. If you do become groggy enough to fall asleep during treatment, our dentist will be able to wake with a gentle shake.

Discuss your dental fears and sedation options with your dentist. Sedation will allow you to relax and be comfortable during every dental treatment.
